What is Keshav Imports? KESHAV MUSIC is run by musicians for musicians. Unlike large companies that purchase instruments sight-unseen over the phone we fly three times a year to India, purchasing hand-picked instruments to sell here in the states. Because our instruments are individually selected we are never compelled to sell off defective instruments to clear out stock. So-called “beginner” models (too often a euphemism for shoddy tourist-shop eyesores that only end up collecting dust on coffee tables) have no place in our line. We employ no middle-man, allowing us to offer the best possible prices. Our instruments are offered in a range of prices and qualities suitable for serious students or industry pros. KESHAV MUSIC acquires many of our select instruments from DMS Music of Old Delhi. The full line of Indian instruments from this esteemed instrument builder are available to us. We also import fine one-off pieces purchased in the Rabindra Sarani, Lal Bazaar District in Calcutta famous for its Harmoniums and Tanpuras. We also import Rikhi Ram on request. Who is Keshav? Keshavji is a Kirtan-wallah (a player of Hindu devotional music) and a professional musician for 35 years. He has recorded with Krishna Das on the Triloka label and is a regular accompanist with Krishna Das. He has also performed with Jai Uttal, Steve Gorn, Alice Coltrane, Jeff Buckely, Narendra Budakar, Rakesh Prasanna, Ayub Khan, Gulam Mohammed Khan, Dave Stringer - and the Dervishes of Masjid Al Farah.
