5. That prime number leads and follows us to now. URB ALT Festival 2010
proudly announces the 5th year of programming alternative arts of all
mediums from June 18-26 to the global audience that is New York City.
Showcasing 5 dates at 5 separate venues featuring 5 unique artists per event,
URB ALT Festival 2010 is audaciously expanding during this period of
economic uncertainty. The offering of free to very low-cost multi-cultural
live music, theatre, literature and film premiere events in Harlem, Tribeca and
Dumbo is part of the earnest mission to feature cutting-edge underground
and internationally established artists.
In the past URB ALT has programmed highly eclectic bills with artists such as
Funkadelic, Spottiswoode & His Enemies, Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, Kaki
King and writer/activist Farai Chideya. 2010 is no different. When the URB
ALT Fest was launched in Harlem back in 2006 it was one of my humble
goals to get us to the 5th year while also maintaining programming
autonomy, says festival founder, Boston Fielder. Happy to say that our 5th
anniversary celebration is our most diverse ever. Vampire movies, musical
tributes to Miles Davis Bitches Brew, New Zealand avant garde chanteuse
Leila Adu, sci-fi animated short films, rare performances by electronica/hip
hop innovators such as Jneiro Jarel, global experimental music/pop/visual
artists riffing on 2001: A Space Odysseyit all makes sense and converges at
URB ALT Festival 2010.
The URB ALT Festival brand is staked on unearthing unknown or sorely
unrecognized creators. June 18-26 will showcase why it is an international
festival that artists and audiences alike attend with anticipation of a
community oriented high quality and revelatory artistic experience. Whether a
happening Uptown at historic The Harlem School of the Arts, Brooklyns hip
Galapagos Artspace, Downtown Manhattans elegant 92Y Tribeca or Harlems
beautiful Saint Nicholas Park URB ALT Festival 2010 is a uniquely New York
event with its eyes and ears focused on the world.
