About

With alto saxophonist Ted Nash
The New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band is one of the best ensembles of its kind. The members of this group range from early teens to early 20s, making the quality of their sound even more astonishing. While celebrating the heritage of jazz, the group also values a progressive, emerging new sound. Tonight, the NYYS Jazz Band explores the music of Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and composer Ted Nash, a longtime member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Selections will include excepts from Nash's Presidential Suite, exploring great 20th century political speeches dealing with the theme of freedom, and Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by the paintings of Monet, Dali, Matisse, Picasso, and others. The concert will also feature the premiere of Andrew Karboski’s Groovement.
