Having met while attending the reputable Jazz youth orchestra created by Carnegie Hall known as NYO two years ago, this exciting group of musicians stand steady as good friends and bandmates on the Jazz scene today.

Koleby Royston is a 19-year old musician from Denver, Colorado. Coming from a family of musicians, Royston has been surrounded by music for his entire life. However, he found his specific love for drumming at age 15-years old when he attended the Jazz House Kids Summer Workshop in Montclair, New Jersey. Since then, Royston has had the chance to work alongside notable musicians including Sean Jones, Matthew Stevens, Allison Miller, Mark Whitfield Jr., Tia Fuller, Mimi Jones, Josh Evans, Julius Tolentino, and others. Royston now attends the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. He feels blessed to have had such opportunities, and hopes to continue improving his craft as a Black American Musician.
Tyler Bullock II is a New York-based jazz pianist, composer, and arranger making his way into the cityโs musical landscape while studying at the Juilliard School. Through its unamplified 88 keys, Tyler sees endless possibilities for freedom and the potential to form a connection with his audiences. In his playing, listeners will hear his unique voice that is rooted in the language of the jazz masters as well as a bridge to the future. Tyler has performed at Dizzyโs Club, Joeโs Pub with Sunny Jain, Keystone Korner in Baltimore, The Jamaica Queens Jazz Festival with The Roy Hargrove Big Band, and was a headline artist for the Nashville Jazz Workshopโs Jazzmania. Tyler Bullockโs blend of sensitivity and assertiveness has well positioned him to draw the attention of jazz fans, new and old.
Ryoma Takenaga started playing the upright bass at the age of nine. Since then, he has received several awards including National Young Arts Award, Outstanding Soloist at the 12th annual Charles Mingus Festival, and the 2022 James Moody Jazz Scholarship. Ryoma's schedule has included: performances at the Montclair Jazz Festival, Dizzyโs Coca-Cola Club, ShapeShifter Lab with Ravi Coltrane, Marcus Gilmore, Matt Garrison + Emilio Modeste Quintet, Friars Club with the Antoine Roney Trio, Kumamoto Japan Jazz Festival with his band, and other high-profile gigs. He has also shared the stage and has been mentored by many greats including Jack DeJohnette, Johnathan Blake, Mimi Jones, Kendrick Scott, and Harish Raghavan amongst others. During the summer of 2021, he recorded his first album as a sideman entitled 'We're Still Here' with the National Youth Orchestra Jazz, featuring Melissa Aldana and Sean Jones. He is now a freshman at NYU in Jazz Studies program and is often found performing around the New York City area.
Ace Williams is an 18 year old trumpet player based in New York City and is currently a student at the Juilliard School. Born in New York City, he began playing trumpet at the age of eight under the tutelage of his father, Willie Williams. He has studied with musicians such as Mark Gross, Wayne Escoffery, Valery Ponomarev , Tanya Darby and the late Joe Shepley among others. The jazz veterans and stars he has shared the stage with includes Willie Williams, T.S. Monk, Mimi Jones, Regina Carter, Sean Jones and others along with being a participant in the 2021 year of Carnegie Hallโs NYO Jazz where he along with the rest of the band recorded the album โWeโre Still Hereโ. He has played in many venues in the NYC/NJ area such as NJPAC, the Blue Note Jazz Club and the Jazz Forum and has also recorded at the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studios. He has also appeared at the 2022 AAPI Jazz Fest with his band(with Helen Sung headlining the festival).
