BIO:
Bassist/composer/author Michael Veal has played as a guest artist with the late Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti as well as master set drummer Tony Allen, Afrobeat’s “co-pilot.” His 12-piece orchestra Aqua Ife features him at the helm of a band comprised of some of New York’s finest musicians. With Aqua Ife, Veal has forged a progressive vision of Afrobeat reflecting the additional influences of funk and electronic music, in addition to other traditions from around Africa and the Caribbean. Their music is jazzy and funky, giving the Afrobeat sound a more electric aura.
