This new quartet, “Rhombal," features veteran explorer Ellery Eskelin on tenor saxophone engaging with brilliant young trumpeter Adam O’Farrill in the midst of a deep rhythm team chemistry Crump and Sorey have formed in collaboration for over a decade, primarily in Vijay Iyer Quartet and Trio. The group will explore new music written by Crump for this gathering.
Memphis-bred, Grammy-nominated bassist/composer Stephan Crump is a rising light on the New York music scene. As a longtime collaborator with adventurous jazz composers (since 1999 with Vijay Iyer) as well as, among others, guitar wizard Jim Campilongo and singer-songwriter Jen Chapin, he has become known for the elegance and purposeful groove of his acoustic and electric bass playing, and for transforming his instrument into a speaking entity with magnetic pull on audiences...
