Mining the long, storied careers of Duke Ellington and Count Basie, THE COUNT MEETS THE DUKE swings through the sultry sounds of Kansas City, New Orleans, and Harlem from the 1930's through 60’s. Modeled on their 2013 Drama Desk nominated show Le Jazz Hot, and featuring the Andersons’ signature musical style, THE COUNT MEETS THE DUKE features filmed archival interviews with each musical master while Al Hirschfield’s famous caricatures add a touch of whimsy to Basie and Ellington’s toe-tapping music. Songs like “April in Paris,” Morton Swing,” “Take the A Train,” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got that Swing” are juxtaposed with original compositions by Peter and Will that were inspired by the two jazz titans, whose musical friendship spanned decades...
