The International Street Cannibals, called by the New York Times a "brash new music ensemble", will present “Schubert High”, on Sunday, May 13 – 7:30 PM at St Mark's in-the-Bowery, 131 East 10th Street (at 2nd Ave.) in Manhattan.
The evening will include performances of original settings and re-contextualizations of Schubert, the music of Wotan "Lefty" Barrett, Dan Cooper, John Feeney, and Gene Pritsker, and new choreography and dances by Megan Sipe.
During the course of the concert, we'll hear, among other things, striking settings of Schubert: a version of his Quartettsatz (in C minor, D. 703) , in an augmented scoring in which contrabass and African djembe undergird the texture; three novel musical settings of Schubert Lieder, performed by baritone Charles Coleman and pianist Taka Kigawa, in which an added third instrument is utilized for each, as the instrumental variable. As well, Orchestra of St Luke's concertmaster Krista Bennion Feeney will help render the Variations movement of the "Trout" Quintet, featuring Taka Kigawa on piano....
