The Julian Reid Quartet seeks to sit at various intersections: the intersection of jazz, soul, and R&B; the intersection of comfort and challenge; the intersection of familiar and unfamiliar. They hope that the variety gives people from different communities something to chew on musically as well as lyrically – the selections with lyrics are intentionally chosen in order to pay homage to past struggles of various people, groups, or current issues that affect those in the here and now.
