In recent years, Vibraphonist Tyler Blanton has garnering considerable notice in the New York music scene as a composer and improvisor. On this occasion, he will premiere of a brand new suite of compositions entitled "Gotham" for his powerhouse quartet consisting of bassist Matt Clohesy, drummer Nate Wood, saxophonist Donny McCaslin, and Blanton on vibes and midi percussion. The groups’ sound is distinctive- edgy, powerful, tightly knit, unrelenting, and adventurous. Together they culminate to create a sound suggestive of a much larger ensemble. Stylistically, "Gotham" provides a platform to present the vibraphone in a more complex and nuanced way the it is typically used in a jazz context. "Gotham" runs the gamut from modern jazz, to electronic and rock influences, pushing the group to create a unique and modern sound-scape beyond the scope of a conventional jazz quartet....
