"The Ullmann/Swell 4 is Gebhard Ullmann, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, compositions, Steve Swell, trombone, compositions, Hilliard ""Hill"" Greene, bass and Barry Altschul, drums, percussion. This ensemble is not to be missed!! This is a rare New York performance. The ensemble has been together since 2004 and has toured the US, Canada and Europe numerous times to enthusiastic audiences. They have three CDs to their credit with a fourth to be recorded soon for the Jazzwekschtatt label of Berlin. The cross cultural emphasis in their playing and compositions gives this ensemble a unique edge in todays jazz/new music scene. Barry is one of the legends of this music, having recorded early on with Paul Bley, Anthony Braxton, Chick Corea and Sam Rivers, setting the standard for new music drummers and composers that followed.
