Tucked away in a backroom on the 2nd floor of 104 E. 126th Street, just east of Park Avenue in Harlem, the business offices of the Jazz Museum in Harlem (JMH) are deceptively unassuming, belying the beehive of communal jazz activity they foster and facilitate. Captained by saxophonist/pianist/writer/ educator/impresario Loren Schoenberg, with able-bodied assistance from his right-hand-ma’am, Wilhelmina Grant and additional help from co-director/bassist Christian McBride who, in addition to providing high-profile exposure for the museum while on the road, leads workshops when in town, the JMH is making a yeoman effort to bring jazz to the people - and vice versa.
