We Free StRINGS is a newly formed string ensemble featuring violist Melanie Dyer, violinists Charles Burnham and Sonya Robinson, cellist Nioka Workman, David Harewood on piano and Larry Roland on bass who perform original and spontaneous improvised music that derives from African American jazz and African Diaspora traditions. The group’s musical influences encompass an eclectic range of voices, from the Batwa forest people and “down-home blues” celebrants to the “free school.”
