About

Workers Unite Film Festival presents an evening of film, activism and music with a live performance by drummer, composer and poet William Hooker. Hooker will provide a soundtrack of avant-garde jazz to the silent film “The Symbol of the Unconquered.” Directed by Oscar Micheaux, who is widely regarded as the first major African-American feature filmmaker, “The Symbol of the Unconquered” was celebrated as a direct rebuttal to “The Birth of a Nation” when it was released in 1920.

The film screening and live performance are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome and will benefit Workers Unite Film Festival.
