Jazz Vocalist MADDY WINER will be performing with LARRY BROWN on the keyboard, MANNY PATINO on bass and CLAUDIO BARARDI on drums.
Maddy performed American Popular Song jazz concerts with pianist and composer Loonis McGlohon, host of the NPR Peabody award winning series. They toured throughout the eastern United States including a sold out performance at Lincoln Center in New York City to standing ovations. Two McGlohon recordings “The Music Of Loonis McGlohon” and “Name Dropping” include selections sung by Maddy along with selections by Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine, George Shearing, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Joe Williams, Margaret Whiting and Judy Garland.
Maddy also toured as a headliner in the stage show “North Carolina Is My Home,” written by and starring Loonis McGlohon and Charles Kuralt. The performances were so successful that NPR created and aired a television special, Loonis McGlohon & Friends which featured Maddy.
She has headlined concerts at Lincoln Center in New York City. the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, the Saint Louis Symphony, Saint Lawrence Centre For The Arts in Toronto and more.
Maddy’s CD, HEART TO HEART features Cyrus Chestnut, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Vince Lewis, John Brown and Todd Wright; and her CD, CROSSROAD is with Vince Lewis, Rick Simerly, Todd Wright, Bill Covington, Tom Hildreth and River Guerguerian. Maddy is a favorite pick on Pandora and iTunes.
Pianist LARRY BROWN leads one of the most accomplished straight-ahead jazz groups in the Mid-Atlantic area, having performed at An Die Musik, Blues Alley, the Meyerhoff, the Kennedy Center, the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, East Coast Jazz Festival, Baltimore-Washington Jazz Fest, Alexandria Jazz Festival, Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Festival, Twins Jazz, Bohemian Caverns, the King Of France Tavern, Montpelier Arts Center, Chris’ Café, the New Haven Lounge, Caton Castle, Strathmore Mansion, and the Black Rock Center for the Arts.
The group’s four CDs receive airplay all over the country, as well as in Brazil, Canada, Russia, and Japan. The band, which reprises the hard-bop style of the legendary Blue Note era, was recognized by the Washington Area Music Association as the Best Jazz Group for 2009. The group’s celebrated release, “Hard Bop Café” was recognized by WAMA as the Best Jazz Recording for 2006.
As an undergraduate at Towson University, Larry studied with Stan Kenton’s favorite arranger/composer, Hank Levy. He performed with and composed for the lauded Towson University Jazz Ensemble. With a Bachelors Degree in Music Theory, Larry attended graduate school at Catholic University, where he received his Master of Music degree after studying Composition and Electronic Music with the legendary Emerson Myers.
Bassist MANNY PATINO studied music at Miami-Dade Community College, University of Miami, and Florida International University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Music.
He has participated as a studio musician in over 40 CD/LP recordings and has performed numerous TV Shows, and concerts throughout the world accompanying artists in various genres including: Ed Calle, Nestor Torres, Dave Valentin, Mongo Santamaria, Giovanni Hidalgo, Patato Valdez, Jerry Gonzalez, Paquito Hechavarria, Ira Sullivan, Arturo Sandoval, Ed Calle, Luis Salinas, Beverly D'Angelo, Othello Molineaux, Roberto Perera, among others.
Manny has performed for President Clinton, as well as various congressmen and dignitaries throughout his career.
Manny's first CD, Groove Road, was released in 2016 - a mix of eclectic styles and rhythms that demonstrates his artistry as a composer, arranger, and producer.
In addition to recording, performing with numerous artists and genres, Manny was part of the adjunct music faculty at Miami-Dade Community College. He currently freelances throughout Central & South Florida in Jazz Trios and Quartets where he feels there is more “room” and freedom of expression.
Drummer CLAUDIO BARARDI discovered the excitement of playing drums at age ten and began to study in earnest with some of the area’s finest percussionists. Later, at the University of Bridgeport CT, he was the featured drummer in the Music Department’s Big Band workshop.
By his early teens, he was already playing professionally in several area combos and big bands. Soon after high school, he began touring the USA and Caribbean with Gene Hull and various other musical organizations, gaining valuable experience backing up such celebrities as Vic Damone, Sandler and Young, Bob Hope, and many others.
As a member of the pop combo The Hi Lights, Claudio performed on the Mike Douglas National TV Show with Kaye Ballard. In Las Vegas, he played main show rooms at the Sahara and Frontier hotels. He played the Playboy Club hotels and many of the Caribbean’s best resorts. Claudio moved to Florida upon retirement in 2010 and is currently a full-time “retired” musician.
