Eple Trio with Karl Seglem at Kongsberg Jazz Festival

The first of seven shows being presented by All About Jazz, in collaboration with the Kongsberg Jazz Festival and Music Export Norway, under the banner Doing It Norway.

Eple Trio (pianist Andreas Ulvo, bassist Sigurd Hole, percussionist Jonas Howden Sjøvaag) has, since its 2007 debut, Made This, expanded the purview of the piano trio through judicious use of electronics, and an approach described by All About Jazz's John Kelman as a "blend of serenity and occasional bursts of jagged intensity."

Saxophonist Karl Seglem has been working the nexus of improvisation and Norwegian traditionalism for two decades. As label head of NORCD, he's released a wide range of albums, including 2010's Ossicles, which Kelman praised as "It's all about genre-busting...with its combination of goat horns, Hardanger fiddles, ethnic percussion and African instruments, breaks down barriers in its own very personal way."...

Eple and Seglem intersected on the saxophonist's NORSKjazz.no (2009), and this show promises a combination of material from that recording, Eple's own music and, no doubt, a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
