Latin Jazz Night at Southminster United Church

atin Jazz Night, featuring the extraordinarily talented Cuban pianist, Miguel De Armas. Miguel is returning to Southminster having performed a brilliant concert in Southminster’s noon hour series in January that left everyone wishing for more.

Next Thursday’s program will comprise a mixture of traditional and modern Latin melodies and showcase the unique Cuban flavours of jazz harmony and improvisation. Miguel will be joined by talented collaborators Amhed Mitchel on drums, Roberto Riverón on bass, and Arien Villegas playing additional percussion. The set list, which you can see below, includes works by famous composers such as Antônio Carlos Jobim, Thelonius Monk and Herbie Hancock, traditional Cuban works, and modern compositions by Miguel himself. I am also honored to have a work of my own, She Walks in Beauty Like the Night, which was inspired by Lord Byron’s poem, included in this amazing program.
