Woodson obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, where he studied under Marcus Belgrave. Pour fêter cette nouvelle année, Alexis Valet invite le batteur New Yorkais Raphaël Pannier, qui a joué notamment avec Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, et le trompettiste américain Josiah Woodson : Gagnant d’un Grammy Award en tant que sideman (Beyoncé: “Love on Top” 2013).
Josiah Woodson commence la trompette à l’âge de 12 ans. Issu de l’Atelier « Jazz Oaktown », il a affiné son art sous l’enseignement privé de son mentor, Khalil Shaheed. Woodson a obtenu son baccalauréat en musique du Conservatoire d’Oberlin en Ohio, où il a étudié avec Marcus Belgrave. Il s’installe à Boston pour recevoir une maîtrise en musique (avec les honneurs académiques) du New England Conservatory of Music, Woodson était parmi les étudiants sélectionnés pour participer au Festival de Jazz de Panama avec Danilo Perez, partageant la scène avec David Sanchez, Victor Paz, et Kurt Rosenwinkel. À Boston, Woodson est devenu membre du «Projet Makanda » avec Oliver Lake, Yoron Isreal et John Lockwood, mais partageait la scène avec d’autre groupes, comme « Out to Lunch », les « People’s Champs » et les « Superpower Horns », avec qui il a écrit et enregistré sur le dernier album primé de Beyoncé. Woodson a eu l’honneur de collaborer et / ou de partager la scène avec des artistes et des musiciens de grande renommée : Branford Marsalis, Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, David Sanchez, Danilo Perez, Ronnie Burrage, John Lockwood, Dave Holland, Ben Williams, Mulgrew Miller, Marcus Belgrave, Clarence Clemons, Beyoncé Knowles, Blitz The Ambassador, Mos Def, Winard Harper, Steve Turre, Najee et beaucoup plus.
