Prestigious herald of American jazz, willingly venturing into other musical spheres, saxophonist Branford Marsalis performs here at the head of his illustrious quartet, formed in the 1980s and which has become his most emblematic project. After having hardened his skills by playing with the Jazz Messengers of Art Blakey or within the quintet of Wynton Marsalis (his brother), Branford Marsalis made his saxophone blow in particular alongside Sting, with whom he played – on stage and on record – from 1985 to 1999. Héraut prestigieux du jazz américain, s’aventurant volontiers dans d’autres sphères musicales, le saxophoniste Branford Marsalis se produit ici à la tête de son illustre quartet, formé dans les années 1980 et devenu son projet le plus emblématique. Après s’être aguerri en jouant notamment avec les Jazz Messengers d’Art Blakey ou au sein du quintette de Wynton Marsalis (son frère), Branford Marsalis a fait souffler son saxophone en particulier aux côtés de Sting, avec lequel il a joué – sur scène et sur disque – de 1985 à 1999. Très actif et éclectique, il a enregistré de nombreux albums en tant que meneur ou accompagnateur. Explorant un jazz d’une suprême élégance, le quartet qu’il dirige depuis 1986 s’est imposé comme son projet de référence. Les trois autres membres en sont actuellement Joey Calderazzo (piano), Eric Revis (basse) et Justin Faulkner (batterie).
