“In Deserts” was born out of a creative residency led by Samy Thiébault in the spring of 2024, in the heart of the Algerian desert, in Tamanrasset. Surrounded by Tuareg women, guardians of the Tinde—an iconic percussion instrument played exclusively by them—the saxophonist embarked on a unique musical dialogue. With the support of double bassist Thomas Bramerie and other Tuareg musicians, a repertoire combining traditional songs and original compositions gradually took shape. Before delivering a fully orchestrated version, open to broader aesthetic crossovers, this first stage of creation will be presented at 38Riv.
