Diego Imbert "Urban" at Sunset-Sunside

For many years Diego Imbert wanted to return to his first love : electric bass. The choice of his quartet's meber was therefore natural : David El-Malek (sax), Quentin Ghomari (trumpet) and Franck Agulhon (drums). But he was looking for a different sound, "bigger" could we say. He then went to Pierre-Alain Goualch (Fender Rhodes keys), Pierrick Pedron (sax) and Bastien Ballaz (trombone). Based on mesmerizing basslines, Diego Imbert's music for this project is inspired by the 70s, but the arrangements, including the four "puffed" voices, can not be more rooted in a resolutely current, dynamic, and neat artistic approach. For the recording, Diego called Eric Legnini, a specialist in the genre, which allowed him to concentrate on his instrument and freed him from the difficult task of being a director and a musician at the same time. Depuis quelques années, Diego Imbert souhaitait revenir à ses premiers amours, à savoir la basse électrique. C’est donc tout naturellement qu’il a fait appel aux membres de son quartet: David El‐Malek, Quentin Ghomari et Franck Agulhon. Mais il recherchait un son différent, plus «gros» pourrait‐on dire. Il s’est alors dirigé vers Pierre‐Alain Goualch au Fender Rhodes et aux claviers, Pierrick Pedron au sax alto et Bastien Ballaz au trombone. Basé sur des lignes de basse hypnotisantes, la musique qu’a composée Diego Imbert pour ce projet, s’inspire des années 70, mais l’arrangement, notamment des quatre voix «soufflées», est on ne peut plus ancré dans une démarche artistique résolument actuelle, dynamique, et soignée. Pour la réalisation de cet enregistrement, Diego a fait appel à Eric Legnini, spécialiste du genre,ce qui lui a permis de se concentrer sur son instrument et l’a libéré de la tâche difficile d’être réalisateur et musicien en même temps.
