Whenever he had the chance, he would climb to the top of the stairs to listen to what was going on on this little stage... A stage he now knows better than anyone, after decades of music, sweat and passion shared within its walls.Étienne Mbappé was born in Bonendale, in the Sawa region of Cameroon, in 1964. His talent quickly became apparent: virtuoso bassist, inspired composer and true showman, he is now recognized as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. S’il est une chose qui traverse les époques du jazz, c’est bien son lien inaltérable avec l’improvisation.Et c’est dans les jam sessions que cette magie prend toute sa dimension : liberté totale, rencontres imprévues, énergie brute.Pour cette 19e édition du Festival, le Club accueille un musicien emblématique, dont l’histoire est intimement liée à ce lieu : Étienne Mbappé.Ce grand nom du jazz et des musiques du monde a une véritable histoire d’amour avec le Club, commencée dans les années 80, alors qu’il jouait chaque soir au Caf’Conc, rue Saint-Denis. Dès qu’il en avait l’occasion, il montait en haut de l’escalier pour écouter ce qui se tramait sur cette petite scène... Une scène qu’il connaît aujourd’hui mieux que quiconque, après des décennies de musique, de sueur et de passion partagées entre ses murs.Originaire de Bonendale, dans les terres sawa du Cameroun, Étienne Mbappé voit le jour en 1964. Très vite, son talent s’impose : bassiste virtuose, compositeur inspiré et véritable showman, il est aujourd’hui reconnu comme l’un des musiciens les plus polyvalents de sa génération.
