African Connection offers us a substitute for his most recent musical experiences, driven by a desire to reconcile a certain avant-garde with the heritage of traditional blues and jazz. Composed of the musicians mentioned above, Ricky Ford's quartet is immediately distinguished by the overall vigor that animates it. Ricky Ford's tone and the conviction that permeates each of his speeches are the two things that immediately strike the mind when he picks up his instrument. Closer to Coleman Hawkins than to Lester Young, he separates the notes from each other, resorting to legato phrasing only for ornamental reasons. African Connection nous offre un succédané de ses plus récentes expériences musicales, animées d’un désir de concilier un certain avant-gardisme avec l’héritage du blues et du jazz traditionnels. Composé des musiciens mentionnés ci-dessus, le quartet de Ricky Ford se distingue d’emblée par la vigueur d’ensemble qui l’anime.  Le timbre de Ricky Ford et la conviction qui empreint chacune de ses interventions sont les deux choses qui frappent immédiatement l’esprit lorsqu’il s’empare de son instrument. Plus proche en cela de Coleman Hawkins que de Lester Young, il détache les notes les unes des autres, ne recourant au phrasé legato que pour ds motifs ornementaux. Le confinement à vu naître plusieurs nouvelles compositions de Ricky Ford ainsi que des chansons qu’il interprète sur scène. Résultat à découvrir au Sunset!
