Few drummers fully assume the role of leader and composer. With the exception of a few, their projects often sacrifice the subtleties of melodic and harmonic development in favour of asymmetrical bars and complex tempo changes. The trio of French musician Thomas Delor, accompanied by guitarist Simon Martineau and double bassist Georges Correia, is a radical departure from this rule.Thomas Delor has succeeded in turning his trio into a unique ensemble, with a singular language, inimitable nuances and a creativity that is both subtle and explosive. His compositions, arrangements and interpretations share a common treatment identifiable from the first note, based on the infinite exploration of his instrument, which he transforms into a subtle blend of rhythmist, melodist and colourist. In 2018, the trio released The Swaggerer - voted “Album Révélation” by Jazz Magazine, “Album de l'année 2018” by Libération, and “Hit” by Couleurs Jazz - then in 2020 Silence The 13th, hailed with four stars in Jazz Magazine and Jazz Journal (UK), voted “Indispensable” by Paris-Move/Blues Magazine and acclaimed by Citizen Jazz, both produced by the Fresh Sound New Talent label. They will be presenting their new repertoire at 38Riv, in preparation for their forthcoming live recording in Japan a month later....
