TÈR LABA…elsewhere. The one we come from, the one that shapes us, to which we always return, and Valérie’s, Reunion Island, the island where she was born. Through this new project, she reconnects with her roots and, above all, her mother tongue through song, reinterpreting old “Séga” songs that rocked her childhood, but also by introducing us to her compositions, co-written with the talented Flo Vincenot, a Guadeloupean pianist. She also sought elsewhere in Clément Belmonte, a Guadeloupean trumpeter, and Yannick Lavary, who, like her, represents Reunion Island. Artists rooted in their culture and eager to serve delicate, touching, danceable, and falsely naive music. It is therefore the freedom to be oneself that is defended in Tèr laba, the right to be multiple, the right to be from here, and elsewhere...Singer, pianist, bassist, composer, Valérie Chane is a multi-instrumentalist, quickly recognized as a dazzling Creole jazz pianist and a key figure in contemporary Creole jazz music. She released two albums on the Aztec Musiques label (the Malavoi group's label): Muzik pou lo Kèr and Nout Souk, both playlisted on RFi, FIP, France Inter, France Musique, and France Outre-mer. TÈR LABA…l’ailleurs. Celui d’où l’on vient, celui qui nous sculpte, auquel on revient aussi toujours et celui de Valérie, La Réunion, l’île qui l’a vu naître. À travers ce nouveau projet elle renoue avec ses racines et surtout, sa langue maternelle à travers le chant en réinterprétant des vieux titres « Séga » qui ont bercé toute son enfance, mais aussi en nous faisant découvrir ses compositions, co-écrites avec la talentueuse Flo Vincenot, pianiste guadeloupéenne. L’ailleurs, elle l’a cherché aussi chez Clément Belmonte, trompettiste guadeloupéen et Yannick Lavary qui comme elle, représente la réunion. Des artistes ancrés dans leur culture et désireux de servir une musique délicate, touchante, dansante, faussement naïve. C’est donc la liberté d’être soi qui est défendue dans Tèr laba, le droit d’être multiple, le droit d’être d’ici, et d’ailleurs...Chanteuse, pianiste, bassiste, compositrice, Valérie Chane est une multi-instrumentiste, très vite reconnue comme une pianiste de jazz créole au jeu éblouissant et figure incontournable de la musique jazz créole contemporaine.
