Guillaume Barraud & Mathieu Bélis - Estampes at Le Baiser Sale

The result of ten years of collaboration, the album "ESTAMPES" composed by Mathieu Bélis and Guillaume Barraud reveals an intimate repertoire. The synergy between the piano and the bansuri (a large Indian transverse flute) gives rise to a language of its own. The struck strings and the breath of the bamboo intertwine to sketch brightly coloured canvases. It is an ode to travel, an escape.The interesting piano/flute duo takes us into the heart of their heterogeneous universe where contemporary jazz, classical, pop and traditional music blend together.Immersed in classical and contemporary music, Mathieu Bélis started playing the piano with his father before taking a classical training. It was after listening to a Chick Coréa solo piano record that he became interested in improvisation. He developed his own musical language inspired by musicians such as Egberto Gismonti, Keith Jarrett, Anouar Brahem... Fascinated by new inspirations, he also looked to the Middle East and North Africa. He is followed by Dino Saluzzi and Antoine Hervé before being at the origin of several formations.Surprisingly, Guillaume Barraud started playing the guitar at a very young age, and it was only after meeting the Indian music legend Hariprasad Chaurasia that he found his own voice with the subtle and bewitching sound of the bamboo flute. Within a few years, he assimilated the spirit and authenticity of the tradition. He worked on numerous projects before meeting Mathieu Bélis in Paris and setting up several groups with him.Their strong complicity is to be discovered at the Baiser Salé during this new edition of the Pianomania Festival!...

Fruit de dix années de complicités, l’album « ESTAMPES » composé par Mathieu Bélis et Guillaume Barraud dévoile un répertoire intimiste. De la synergie du piano et du bansuri (grande flûte traversière de l’Inde) émane un langage propre. Les cordes frappées et le souffle du bambou s’imbriquent, s’entremêlent pour esquisser des toiles aux couleurs vives. C’est une ode au voyage, une échappée.L’intéressant duo piano/flûte nous emmène au cœur de leurs univers hétéroclites où se mêlent jazz contemporain, musique classique, pop et traditionnelle.Baigné dans la musique classique et contemporaine, Mathieu Bélis commence le piano avec son père avant de suivre une formation classique. C’est après avoir écouté un disque de Chick Coréa en piano solo, qu’il s’intéresse à l’improvisation. Il développe son propre langage musical s’inspirant de musiciens comme Egberto Gismonti, Keith Jarrett, Anouar Brahem… Féru de nouvelles inspirations, il regarde également du côté du Moyen Orient et du Maghreb. Il est suivi par Dino Saluzzi et Antoine Hervé avant d’être à l’origine de plusieurs formations.Étonnamment, c’est la guitare que Guillaume Barraud a commencé à jouer très jeune, ce n’est qu’après sa rencontre avec la légende de la musique indienne Hariprasad Chaurasia qu’il trouve sa propre voix avec le son subtil et envoûtant de la flûte en bambou. En quelques années, il assimile l’esprit et l’authenticité de la tradition. Il travaille dans de nombreux projets avant de rencontrer Mathieu Bélis à Paris et de monter avec lui plusieurs formations.Leur forte complicité est à découvrir au Baiser Salé lors cette nouvelle édition du Festival Pianomania !
