French-Algerian saxophonist Illyes Ferfera joins the #JazzDeDemain residency!He began learning the saxophone in the Gers region near Marciac. Music and jazz became an integral part of his life at the various editions of the "Jazz In Marciac" festival. The proximity of this village and the brilliant musicians who pass through it once a year for a fortnight left a deep impression on him. However, the sounds, rhythms and songs he grew up with in Algiers have never left him.Inspired by the traditional rhythms of his native Algeria, by the styles that cross North Africa from Moroccan Gnawa to Algerian Diwane, or by the Raï of the superb and much-lamented Cheikha Rimitti... the saxophonist adds his own personal jazz influences to his palette of compositions: Archie Shepp, Karim Ziad, Steve Coleman, Anouar Brahem, Miguel Zenon, Chris Cheek, or Guillermo Klein, as well as his roots in European and French culture, with influences ranging from Georges Brassens to singer/percussionist André́ Minvielle, with whom he has collaborated on numerous occasions.Today, he is considered one of the finest jazz musicians of his generation. Le saxophoniste franco-algérien Illyes Ferfera rejoint la résidence #JazzDeDemain !Il commence l’apprentissage du saxophone dans le Gers près de Marciac. La musique et le jazz entrent alors dans sa vie lors des différentes éditions du festival « Jazz In Marciac ». La proximité de ce village et des musiciennes et musiciens brillants qui le traversent une fois l’an durant quinze jours ne manquera pas de le marquer profondément. Pour autant les sons, les rythmes et les chants qui ont bercé son enfance à Alger ne le quittent pas.Inspiré par les rythmes traditionnels de son pays de naissance, l'Algérie, par les styles qui traversent l'Afrique du Nord du Gnawa marocain au Diwane algérien, ou encore par le raï de la superbe et regrettée Cheikha Rimitti… le saxophoniste ajoute à sa palette de compositions ses influences jazz personnelles : Archie Shepp, Karim Ziad, Steve Coleman, Anouar Brahem, Miguel Zenon, Chris Cheek, ou encore Guillermo Klein, ainsi que son ancrage dans la culture européenne et française avec des influences qui peuvent aller de Georges Brassens au chanteur/percussionniste André́ Minvielle avec il a collaboré à de nombreuses reprises.Aujourd’hui, il est considéré comme l’un des meilleurs musiciens de jazz de sa génération.
