Nec+, Etienne Mbappé Trio at Théâtre Du Vésinet

VLA welcomes one of the greatest bassists on the international scene, Étienne Mbappé, the bassist with the black silk gloves, who played with Jacques Higelin, Catherine Lara and Michel Jonasz, then recorded with Ray Charles before embarking on his solo career. He will be coming with his trio NEC+. Born in April 2019, this trio is, in Étienne Mbappé's own words, a "beautiful, unusual project", as it brings together a drummer, Nicolas Viccaro, who will exceptionally be replaced by Yoann Danier, and Christophe Cravero, pianist and violinist. Drawing on his many years of experience, Étienne Mbappé has skilfully succeeded in synthesizing the musical accents he has gleaned over the years, supported by the virtuosity of the artists. The album Time Will Tell, produced under the particular conditions of the confinement, is one of doubt and expectation, yet one in which the jubilation of three artists happy to be together can be felt. Some tracks are punctuated by Mbappé's deep, gravelly voice, in the manner of a ballad song (London elongui) or an African chant (Mookam Bilan), while others are more committed, like Dark Floyd, a tribute to George Floyd, murdered in Minneapolis. So, yes, Time Will Tell, "le temps le dira", will make this committed and benevolent music, full of humanity and generosity, resonate, bringing audiences together around a shared emotion. ...

Il viendra avec son trio NEC+. Née en avril 2019, ce trio est, de l’avis même d’Étienne Mbappé, un « beau projet, pas commun », puisqu’il réunit autour de lui un batteur, Nicolas Viccaro qui exceptionnellement sera remplacé par Yoann Danier et Christophe Cravero, pianiste et violoniste. Fort de sa longue expérience, Étienne Mbappé réussit habilement avec cette formation à faire la synthèse des accents musicaux glanés au fil des années, le tout porté par la virtuosité des artistes. L’album Time Will Tell, élaboré dans les conditions particulières liées auconfinement, est celui du doute et de l’attente, dans lequel pourtant se ressent la jubilation de trois artistes heureux d’être ensemble.
