Ars Nova Workshop presents the DJ, drummer, composer and producer Photay at Solar Myth on Sunday, October 20.

Photay is the alias of NY-based composer, drummer, DJ, producer and musical polymath Evan Shornstein. As Photay, he has recorded a quartet of albums that organically bring together intricate chamber-pop arrangements, post-techno electronic textures, and a love of Black Atlantic polyrhythms. Photay’s music is built on positive intentions. His latest album, Windswept, contrasts the hardware eclecticism of electronic music with the warm sonic pastoralism of outdoor elements. In the orbit of the influential figures such as percussionist/producer Carlos Niño and new-age giant Laraaji, Photay is the sort of artist who’s never neatly fit into any one box, and likely never will.
