SANDCATCHERS was formed in the corner of Cheryl's, a soul food restaurant on the corner of Underhill avenue and Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. Given the opportunity for a weekly gig, guitarist and oud player Yoshie Fruchter brought in his friends Myk Freedman on lap steel, Michael Bates on double bass, and Yonadav Halevy on percussion to see what kind of music they could make together. Over the course of many weeks, a fresh sound was created blending the middle eastern trope of the oud with the dreamy, americana infused textures of the steel - a new project was born. Featuring original music by Fruchter inspired both by maqam and the Appalachian trail, Sandcatchers is a beautiful collaboration of sound and souls....

Mazout (Philadelphia):
Mazout are Alban Bailly, Guitar, Rosie Langabeer, Organ & Ricardo Lagomasino, Drums.Playing their first show since 2012 or 2013, we are recycling the bio from their December 2012 Highwire Gallery appearance.
Alban Bailly is a multifaceted instrumentalist who studied composition, jazz, and improvisation in France. He performed extensively in Europe before moving to the United States in 2005. Playing rock music in his youth, Alban moved onto studying jazz, which led him to various forms of improvised music. In 2001 he studied Arabic music and oud in Marrakesh, Morocco. After his return to France, he became an active performer, collaborating with various music and dance ensembles in Europe. Alban is in demand as an improvisor and continues to tour in United States, Canada, and Europe. He is a founder, composer, and guitarist of the ensembles Inzinzac and Yapp. He is also the guitarist for the modern tango group Oscuro Quintet, among other projects. He is involved with dance ensembles as well, for which he performs and composes electro-acoustic music.
Rosie Langabeer is a composer and performer from New Zealand who writes for musical ensembles of various sizes, theatre, film, circus, dance and performs on a wide range of instruments. A specialist in devised ensemble work and improvisation her sound ranges in style and her virtuosity lies in her versatility and depth of musical knowledge. Langabeer is currently based in Philadelphia, USA where she is a member of No Face Performance Group and works with Pig Iron Theatre Company. She has also collaborated with Subcircle, Ballet X, the WILMA Theatre, Green Chair Dance Company, Gas and Electric Arts and The Agave Opera Company and award winning New Zealand companies Awkward Productions, Ake Ake Theatre Company, Hypnotical Hoodang, directors Deborah Pope, Darcy Gladwin, Briar March, Jeff Henderson, Alyx Duncan and the Wellington Most Famous Orchestra of Miraculous Delights.
Philadelphia-based drummer, Ricardo Lagomasino, has been playing music for most of his life. He has toured the US, Canada, Europe and the UK with a number of groups, appears on 11 released recordings and holds a Bachelors degree from the Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, OH. He is currently playing with Many Arms, The Sea Around Us, Joe Lally, Lagomasino/Fishkin and Tongue Sculptors. In the past, he has played with Capillary Action, Hulk Smash, Lee Jaewon, SHREDfest, Circles, George Korein, Verity In Stereo, Pads & Steel and DCIC.
