About

Modern Renaissance Jazz presents:
Grammy Award-Winning Duo Drummer Will Calhoun & Guitarist Vernon Reid from the group "Living Colour" at Alma Mater music venue in Mt. Airy.

On Thursday, Aug 11th, the Grammy-Award winning duo Will Calhoun and Vernon Reid will partner with bassist Melvin Gibbs to form the soul-rock-jazz fusion project WMV and perform two shows, 7:30pm & 9:30pm at Alma Mater Restaurant/Beer Garden, 7165 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119.

Calhoun has played in a staggering variety of styles and traditions over the course of his eclectic career, including straight-ahead jazz, fusion, traditional African percussion, funk, hip-hop, and of course, hard rock. Bassist Gibbs, no stranger to the electric scene, is known for his work with the group Power Tools, worked as a sideman with Bill Frisell, Femi Kuti, Dead Prez, and Craig Harris, and is an impressive composer in his own right. As the lead guitarist of Living Colour and a co-founder of the Black Rock Coalition, Brooklyn-based Vernon Reid's eclectic and encyclopedic guitar playing ranges from hard rock and punk and funk, to R&B, avant-garde jazz, hip-hop and beyond....
