Instructor: Russell Schmidt; $150. An intensive four-day session designed to develop jazz composing and arranging skills in small group settings. Led by pianist/composer Russell Schmidt, this workshop will examine creative approaches to writing for groups with two-to-four horns, exploring voicing techniques, passing chords, and contrapuntal approaches. Additional topics will include re-harmonization concepts, range and transposition issues, and writing for the rhythm section.
