Contemporary Jazz: Cody Rowlands at The Nash

Born in Seattle and raised in Phoenix, 21 year old trumpeter Cody Rowlands grew up in a very musical environment. He started playing trumpet at the age of nine; when Cody was twelve he auditioned for the Young Sounds of Arizona and was accepted as its youngest member. After five years in Young Sounds (under the direction of Barb Catlin), he received the prestigious Theresa Perez Directors Award. When Cody was eighteen he moved to New York City to attend The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where he has one more semester. In March of 2013 he played with the Andy Allo Band at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX, one of the largest music festivals in the United States. Last April he traveled to Switzerland to perform at the International Jazz Festival Bern with his own quartet, and was invited back to take the stage for 5 nights in October at Marian's Jazzroom, a world renowned jazz club located in Bern, Switzerland.
