Will Goble's connection with Kirtipur is through his wife Ashley, who is currently conducting her Ph.D research as a Fulbright scholar in Nepal. Her good friend Uden Maharjan is a native of Kirtipur and is active in reconstruction efforts. The small city is known for its beautiful historic buildings and temples, almost all of which are now gayo (gone). Will Goble's connection with Kirtipur is through his wife Ashley, who is currently conducting her Ph.D research as a Fulbright scholar in Nepal. Her good friend Uden Maharjan is a native of Kirtipur and is active in reconstruction efforts. The small city is known for its beautiful historic buildings and temples, almost all of which are now gayo (gone). Uden and the Kirtipur Reconstruction Committee (a locally driven initiative) are beginning to rebuild their neighborhood. Proceeds from this concert will be delivered directly to these efforts. One home costs about $1500 USD to rebuild. Immediately following the initial April 25th earthquake and it’s subsequent aftershocks, Will composed a short mini-suite of music for the people of Nepal. It is available through band camp at http://www.willgoble.bandcamp.com, with proceeds going to Kirtipur as well. The music captures feelings of relative calm and stability, shock and disruption, fear, uncertainty, and ultimately, hope, and optimism, through one of America’s finest exports, the blues.
