For more than five decades, Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock—from the funk-fusion of the Brecker Brothers Band to Brecker’s beautiful Brazilian-style tunes. The SJO and its fine soloists promise an electrifying evening of Brecker’s music, featuring special arrangements written by composers Mike Crotty and Nick Cooper. From his earliest recordings with Blood, Sweat and Tears and later with the Horace Silver Quintet, RANDY BRECKER established himself as a sought-after soloist for studio recordings as well as live concert performances. In the early 70s, he worked with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, as well as his own band Dreams, a collaboration with his brother, the legendary tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker. Soon after that they formed the Brecker Brothers Band, recording six albums and garnering seven Grammy nominations. The group featured Randy’s funk-fusion style of writing, which obscured the lines between rock and jazz and greatly influenced the music of that time. In the 1980s, his partnership with jazz pianist, Eliane Elias, shaped his writing as it took on a new sound influenced by Brazilian jazz. To this day, it is a large part of his writing palette. Brecker continues to write, perform, record and travel with his long-time partner and wife, dynamic saxophonist and composer Ada Rovatti. TICKETS: $21, $6 Students (25 & under w/ ID)
