Premier of a New Big Band – playing music of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Queen, Bread, Ravel, and more.
The newest big band in the Phoenix area is the Vax Super Band.  It is a 19-piece big band, composed of many of the finest players in our area.  The repertoire includes music from many of the famous jazz Big Bands, including Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Bob Florence, Tom Kubis and many more; plus new original material that includes big band arrangements of many popular music tunes.
Mike Vax is one of the last true “road rats,” having traveled with the bands of Stan Kenton, Harry James, Glenn Miller, and Jimmy Dorsey over a 53 year period.  He has also performed with the likes of Doc Severinsen, The Dukes of Dixieland in New Orleans, Freddy Hubbard, Art Pepper, Pee Wee Hunt, Bill Watrous, Bud Shank, and Zoot Sims, just to name a few....
