Will Goble is steadily carving out a unique space for himself as a jazz bassist, composer, bandleader, and educator. Only in his thirties, Goble already has a résumé that boasts the work of an experienced, seasoned artist and it shows in his playing and his compositions. Goble quickly flourished while studying and performing with GRAMMY-winning pianist Marcus Roberts. The young musician also met Jason Marsalis and soon became a member of his quartet. Goble considers both Roberts and Marsalis great mentors who have helped him perfect his art. Will Goble is steadily carving out a unique space for himself as a jazz bassist, composer, bandleader, and educator. Goble’s first album, Some Stories Tells No Lies (2012), featured his trio and trumpeter Marcus Printup and saxophonist Chad Eby. His second album, Consider the Blues, is due for release in May 2016 on Origin Arts/OA2 Records. The album will feature his longtime rhythm-section mate Dave Potter, master saxophonist Greg Tardy, and the Atlanta-based pianist Louis Heriveaux.
Currently based in Phoenix, Goble is on the faculty of Scottsdale Community College. He is the coordinator of the College Preparatory Program at the Phoenix Conservatory of Music where he teaches bass, jazz ensemble, and music theory. He has taught at music clinics, camps, and master classes around the country and often conducts workshops and private lessons at the Nash, the performance and education home of Jazz in Arizona.
