MIRO DE SÁ (drums and percussion)
Having played drums since his youth in the late 60s, this Brazilian drummer has gotten all of the necessary experience, plus the expertise to be well known and respected by many of the best musicians in his home town of Rio de Janeiro. Over many years he has played a large variety of styles, including “Rock’n Roll”, funk, samba and authentic reggae among African musicians. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, he, of course, is a specialist in all different samba styles, and in the use of most hand percussion instruments. Originally from the northeast of the country, he learned very early about the culture and musical influence of that region which is the homeland of “Baião.” In the eternal “Bossa Nova” style, he has been lucky to play with and learn from some of the original creators of this movement. For the last five years, jazz has been the main target of his studies and dedication. In 1993, he graduated with honors from the Percussion Insititute of Technology at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. Since then, he has been playing with some of the most recognized jazz musicians in the southwest and has participated in several jazz events such as The Paradise Valley Jazz Party, Chandler Jazz Festival, Glendale Jazz festival and many others.
