The Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington Big Band, directed by Doug Tidaback, has a national and international reputation as being one of the top high school jazz ensembles in the world.The TJI Ellington Big Band has won the Essentially Ellington Competition hosted by Wynton Marsalis at the Lincoln Center in New York in 2010, 2012, 2013 and now 2014! They have performed on national television for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, toured Europe in 2006, 2011 and are preparing for their 2014 tour of France, Switzerland and Italy during July of 2014 where they will perform at the top jazz festivals in Paris, Lyon, Vienne, Montreux, Venice, Umbria and Rome. They have won top Downbeat Awards for their recordings in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. At the Nash, they will perform the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Wynton Marsalis and others from their Europe Tour and newest CD repertoire....
