Acclaimed Phoenix vocalist Sherry Roberson pays tribute to the immortal Billie Holiday in this special performance. Sherry, a virtual Valley native, has a long history of club and concert performances, including nearly two decades with The Jazz Divas and several stints overseas in Istanbul. Roberson’s style reflects the blues qualities of Billie Holiday, combined with a hard-swinging, freight–train-like drive. Roberson has a propensity to “play with time” by moving phrases way ahead or behind the beat as the spirit moves her, which gives her spontaneous interpretations of The Great American Songbook special interest and character.
