Entitled “The First Pride Was A Riot”, this event will kick off with a riotous cabaret performance of drag, burlesque, and more followed by a dance party with the infamous DJ LeFox. Performers range from fresh and enthusiastic to seasoned and stoic, all using the theme of Pride and Riots to tie everything together. New this time around, the doors will be opening at 8:30p with the seated cabaret show beginning at 9p. Dancing will follow and extend all the way till 1a. Tickets for the Cabaret start at $15 and for those who just want to dance, tickets start at $5. BQDP utilizes the sliding scale model in order to allow party-goers to pay what feels possible while supporting the costs of the event as a whole. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. This event is for Queers and Allies ages 18+When considering the possible themes for this coming BQDP, producer Patty Cake, aka Francesca Bourgault, knew it had to relate to the current political climate while also bringing the entertainment and joy of a traditional queer dance party. What better way to fight facism than to call it out in public through artistic expression?Brattleboro Queer Dance Party began on a cold and snowy February night in 2017 at Metropolis when Jay Kava Kava/Money Internet (Jack Kavanaugh) and DJ Wooly Mar (Maria Pugnetti) combined forces to throw one helluva party. BQDP is now a thriving dance party and cabaret typically happening on the last Friday of even numbered months at The Stone Church on Main Street. Curated by Patty Cake in collaboration with integral members of our beloved queer community here in Brattleboro, each party is a night to remember. Thumping DJ sets, attendees who costume for the theme to its full realization every time, sassy and heart-stopping drag, burlesque, and performance art, a gorgeous space with vaulted ceilings and the smoothest dance floors, all intersect to bring our queer community together to witness and dance.
