On Saturday, March 3rd from 7 to 10 pm, at the Vermont Jazz Center, the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community (BAJC) will host a dance party featuring The Butterfly Swing Band, guaranteed to get you shoozin’ and movin’. Got the cabin fever blues? Worn out by the nightly news? Don’t despair --Purim is around the corner! On Saturday, March 3rd from 7 to 10 pm, at the Vermont Jazz Center, the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community (BAJC) will host a dance party featuring The Butterfly Swing Band, guaranteed to get you shoozin’ and movin’. There will be a musical variety show, costume contest with prizes, drinks, food and pastries (including hamantaschen, the special Purim delicacy). Be entertained by Bard Owl, an acoustic duo, known for its driving rhythms and sweet harmonies. Wear your wildest costumes and masks or come as a character from the Book of Esther, which tells the story of Purim. We will act out the story in a purim shpiel, a comic dramatization of what transpired on Purim and why it has become an important Jewish holiday. You will be able to vent your rage at evil and oppression by shaking groggers (noisemakers) at every mention of the name of Haman, evil advisor to the arrogant and self-centered king, and you will cheer as one brave undercover Jewish woman saves the whole Jewish people. We’ll drink some beer or wine (supplied by Windham Wines) and eat some tasty food, while enjoying great music and comedy.  It’s family fun for all ages.
