Purim Palooza Party With Wanda Houston And Eugene Uman at Vermont Jazz Center

If you can’t get to New Orleans or missed a local Mardi Gras opportunity to get into costume or masquerade, you have another chance. Come on Saturday, March 23rd to the Vermont Jazz Center where the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community (BAJC), is hosting a Purim Palooza party from 7-10 pm featuring a jazz/gospel/r&b/soul vocalist with piano accompaniment. The evening will also include a singer of cabaret/parody songs also with piano. The Brattleboro based duo Vibrant Ensemble A.K.A. as VE will perform original culturally inspired world music compositions. Additionally, professional storyteller will also be sharing one or two of his heartwarming and thought-provoking Judaic stories for us. There will be a costume contest with $200 worth of awesome prizes. Wear your wildest costumes and masks, or come as a character from the Book of Esther, which tells the story of Purim or come as you are. We will act out the story in a Purimshpiel, a comic dramatization of what transpired on Purim and why it has become an important Jewish holiday. You will be able to vent your rage at evil and oppression by shaking groggers (noisemakers) at every mention of the name of Haman, evil advisor to the arrogant and self-centered king, and you will cheer as one brave undercover Jewish woman saves the whole Jewish people. We’ll drink some beer and wine (supplied by Windham Wines), enjoy great music and comedy while eating delicious food and pastries including hamantaschen, the special Purim delicacy.
