“Terry Riley with Gyan Riley: Live at 85!” is a celebration of modern minimalist composition in advance of Terry’s 85th birthday. A progenitor of psychedelic and prog rock, Terry’s early experiments in tape loops and delay systems left an indelible mark on the experimental music produced in his wake.

His pioneering endeavors “In C” and “A Rainbow in Curved Air” became landmarks of 20th century music and paved the way for the work of Brian Eno, Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, Pete Townshend and many more.

Deeply influenced by his studies of Indian Classical Music since he became a disciple of the great Kirana master Pandit Pran Nath in 1970, Terry’s incorporation of mantra-like repetition into Western music motifs is evident in his current collaboration with his son Gyan on classical guitar.
