Professional Trumpeter and Clinician John Dover Launches Kickstarter Campaign for First Full-Length Album
September 23rd 2013// After nearly three decades playing jazz, rock, classical, musicals, new music, and more, Portland-based freelance trumpet artist John Dover has kicked off the campaign to raise funds for his first full-length album, recorded live at Ivories Jazz Lounge on November 17, 2013 with the John Dover Quartet. The campaign includes funding not only for recording and mastering the album, but for full promotional considerations, such as radio play and bookings for interviews and festivals.
Since moving to Portland in 2006, Dover has made a splash on the regional music scene, and established himself as one of the area’s most versatile musicians, playing with everyone from Sean Ghazi and Patrick Lamb to the pit orchestras in some of the Northwest region’s finest musicals, including Legally Blonde last fall. Dover has also formed and fronted his own groups, such as the Legacy Big Band, the Brecker Brothers Tribute, and the aforementioned John Dover Quartet. A Bach® Trumpet Artist for Conn-Selmer instruments, Dover travels the country as a Bach® clinician and horn representative and is the resident trumpet instructor at Beacock Music in Vancouver, WA.
At Ivories on November 17, the John Dover Quartet will debut the entire full-length album for audiences as it is recorded, with takes at 7:00pm and 9:00pm. The Quartet will feature Dover on trumpet, Thomas Barber on bass, Ramsey Embick on keys, and Charles Neal of Hip Stew Studios will pull double duty as drummer and sound engineer. Special guests Mike Doolin on guitar and Pete Petersen on saxophone will join the group for a number of featured pieces throughout the event. The album will consist of original tunes written and arranged by Dover and Thomas Barber.
With a busy October pre-recording schedule, including work with the High Street Band, clinician bookings, and a Chet Baker tribute in Montana with bassist Kelly Robertti, John will also perform for both Jonah Luke’s and Sean Wagner’s upcoming record release events before recording his own album live on November 17.
The Kickstarter includes incentives ranging from signed copies of the finished album with a $25 pledge, a live serenade for the contributor's choice of special occasion with a $100 pledge, a song dedication, signed CD, and signed lead sheet with a $250 pledge, and more.
