Mirage Trio at Ivories Jazz Lounge and Restaurant

Mirage has been together for over 10 years, performing at various jazz clubs and hotels including the Brasserie Montmartre, Heathman Jazz Lounge, and the Riverplace Hotel.

Performers for the July 5 engagement include Dennis Plies on vibraphone (a relative of the xylophone), Sammy Epstein on clarinet and saxes, and Bill Athens on acoustic bass. Dennis is a veteran of the Portland music scene and is Professor of Jazz Studies at Warner Pacific College. Sammy has played music in Portland for many years in Mirage, and also with his klezmer band Mazel Tov Orchestra. The July 5 performance will include standards from the great American songbook, as well as some thoughtful and moving lesser known compositions. Expect to hear some Cole Porter, Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Jobim, and also a composition of local composer Gordon Lee. The trio plays acoustically, offering up a rich conversation between the uniqueness of the vibraphone, the purity of the clarinet, and the resonance of the bass.
