A Live Improvisation by Nick Phaneuf, Sept. 22, 7:30 P.M at Seacoast Jazz Society Online Lecture Series

During this unique live performance, multi-talented musician Nick Phaneuf will improvise sound and music in real time while you watch and are able to interact with him. Tonight, Nick will combine electric guitar, synthesizer, and Ableton Live to create improvised ambient music through a generative process he calls 'spontaneous composition'. This is where he applies sound to textures and forms rather than melodic or harmonic structures. His music is aesthetically influenced by 1970’s Brian Eno as well as early 2000’s NYC live drum and bass. What Nick will end up with during this performance is anyone's guess, including his own. The music will be freeform, but he will also take one or two traditional jazz tunes and improvise on them....

Over the years Nick has performed with the Soggy Po Boys, Shango, Jim Dozet Trio, Russ Grazier Quartet, Tan Vampires, and more, playing acoustic and electric guitars, upright and electric bass, and banjo. He has also been a faculty member at PMAC (Portsmouth Music and Arts Center) since 2008.
