International Animated Film Festival ANIMATOR is the biggest festival of animated films in Poland. Its first edition was in 2008 and it was a crowning of the celebrations of the 60-th jubilee of the Polish Animation. During each edition of the festival, about 500 films from all over the world are presented, including retrospectives, thematic screenings, premieres, as well as rarely screened films of the pioneers of animation. The list of special guests who have visited the festival includes outstanding authors of worldâs animation, such as: Zbigniew RybczyĆski, Brothers Quay, John R. Dilworth, Emily Hubley, Igor Kowalow, Bady Minck, Bill Plympton, Mariola Brillowska, David Ehrlich, Yoram Gross, and major Polish animators: Witold Giersz, Jerzy Kucia, Mariusz WilczyĆski, Piotr DumaĆa, Kazimierz UrbaĆski. The visitors to ANIMATOR are also the representatives of Polish animation studios and film institutions, historians of animation, or organizers of other animated film festivals in Poland and worldwide.

The aim of the festival is to present and promote Polish and world artistic animated cinema, as well as showing the relationships of animated films with other areas of art. It is also a great opportunity for the makers of animated cinema to confront the film market.
One of the most important points of the festival is International Animated Films Contest, which is an opportunity to get oneself acquainted with the spectrum of the latest feature length and short film productions. Films from all the continents are submitted to the competition selection, and they are evaluated by an international jury. ANIMATOR is also meeting with artists, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and a special programme Animator for Kids.
ANIMATOR holds an important position on the map of the most important animated film festivals in the world. The editors of the books about festivals âComing Soon to a Festival Near You: Programming Film Festivalsâ, published by a renowned publishing house of St. Andrews university, have called ANIMATOR one of two animated film festivals (together with one held in Hiroshima) worth of being individually represented.
