Jazz Q at Reduta Jazz Club

Jazz Q was established by Martin Kratochvíl and Jiří Stivín, influenced by free jazz and other exclusive jazz styles. The diversity of the presented songs, were at the same time an indicator of internal problems within the group. After Stivín left the band, Martin Kratochvíl started to dominate with his ideas and as a composer. Jazz Q, through a series of personnel changes remained a completely clear and balanced creative continuity. The advent of the British singer Joan Duggan and the replacement of solo guitarists, the music shifted towards the meditative art rock. Between the years 1974 – 1975 a substantial part of the repertoire was made covered rock and soul songs. Since the album Elegie (1976), Jazz Q is an instrumental group again, playing M. Kratochvíl’s compositions and comprehensively connecting seemingly distant music languages....

Simply put, Kratochvíl was inspired by Leoš Janáček and Miles Davis; Ferocious rock doesn’t get lost beside fragile deep melodies. Kratochvíl’s synthesizers may seem a bit monotonous over time, but compositional quality and the contributions of other musicians surely compensates that.
