The Metropolitan Jazz Band was founded in the year 1972 by trumpeter Josef Krajnik. The band creatively and improvisationally combines all aspects of jazz music from the early beginnings to the swing era. Therefore you can find in repertoire songs of L. Armstrong, J.K. Oliver, S. Bechet, W.C. Hand, J.R. Morton, D. Ellington, G. Gerschwin as well as musical works of Czech composers J. Ježek, L. Korbař, E.F. Burian or bandmaster of the MJB J. Krajník. Band also performed on such exotic places like Canary Islands or Mellile (Spanish enclave in Moroco). One of the greatest successes was the participation on World Dixieland Festival in Sacramento (USA). The Metropolitan Jazz Band performs also as a backing orchestra for the foremost Czech jazz vocalists like Jitka Vrbová or Eva Emingerová. Swinging Dixieland style of the Metropolitan Jazz Band is the perfect addition to excellent rhythmic group and here the dominating factor is trumpeter, bandmaster and vocalist Josef Krajník. To mention recent successful performances, last year the Metropolitan Jazz Band performed in Reduta with legend of traditional jazz, bandmaster and trombonist, Chris Barber.
